Testing WineHub Part 3

The last of the trio from Winehub I tested, is a true grenade from Bordeaux. You do not expect such quality to find on the outskirts of Bordeaux, but there actually is something huge to discover...

Colombe de Peyrou

The Power-Merlot from Castillion

Mme. Cathérine Papon-Nouvel is the winemaker behind Colombe de Peyrou. This wine from Château Peyrou comes from the Côtes de Bordeaux - the sattelite areas next to the famous Bordeaux area St. Emilion. Exactly speaking from Castillion. This organic & biodynamic wine is soley made of Merlot and has AOC quality. And yes: Colombe de Peyrou is vegan!

The Look

This clear Merlot has a medium intense ruby red colour. Because of the higher alcohol of 13.5% vol. this wine shows tears aka legs in the glass.

The Smell

Clean and medium plus intense flavours of strawberries and cherries are the primary aromas of the wine. Secondary aromas from the barrique maturation are vanilla and coconut flavours. This wine is a 2012 vintage and has therefore developed some first tertiary aromas of ripening like cooked dark fruits. It smells quite promising to me.

The taste

With just half a gram of residual sugar per litre, Colombe de Peyrou is definately a dry wine. 3.3 g / l of acid should not be too high for people with stomach problems, but it tastes much fruitier.

The flavours you already had in your nose are joined by some more intense flavours like black currant aka cassis jam, cedar wood and some cigar box flavours. The tannin rate is medium plus and allows enough room for the fruity components of this full-bodied Colombe de Peyrou.

The quality

Colombe de Peyrou has an AOC quality level, but it can easily take on other wines, which are classified something higher. Ineed we have a great value for money here. Just get your hands on this wine at winehub and try yourself. It's definately worth the 10 Euros. You won't be disappointed!

They say you may store this Bordeaux up to five years. I think it can easily take some years more.

A drinking temperature of 18 degrees Celsius may be perfect to enjoy this wine to its full.

Food pairing with this wine

Ratatouille, other tasty vegetable dishes and mild cheses go very well with this wine.

For the third time, winehub convinced me to be a great source to purchase high quality organic wines with many vegan wines in their portfolio. Cheers & thanks to winehub's sponsored wines, I was allowed to test & taste.

...and as always: like 'n' share everywhere. Thanks!
